ABSTRACT

An upright wheelchair is an assistive technology similar to a standard wheelchair with ability to stand straight when required. The conventional wheelchair user faces a lot of health issues regarding blood circulation, reduced bone density, urinary health and has very limited access to public places. To overcome these problems and help differently abled persons lead a normal life, a novel standing wheel chair has been designed. The conventional wheelchair which are currently available are bulky, requires a lot of space for movement, power and are not easy to transport. We have designed a light weight standing wheelchair which consumes less space, has large wheels which provides it additional mobility and ability to even operate in difficult terrains. It has two motors which powers its two wheels separately which gives it the ability to turn even 180 degrees on its own location. It is incorporated with a voice module for communication which provides the user ability to control it using voice commands.
