Water Contamination Level Monitoring Using LoRa Technology
Author Name : Harini T, Harisri D, Janani S, Sandhya V P
Water contamination has been a critical issue in many countries in all over the world. Water pollution may be a major environmental problem in India. The largest source of water pollution is due to untreated sewage. So that the quality of water should be monitored continuously, to ensure the safe supply of water from any water bodies and water resources. Hence, the development of a low-cost system for real-time monitoring of water quality using the LoRa technology is designed. LoRa is a new type of wireless connectivity used for long-range transmission. Constant monitoring of water conditions alongside the remote location is impractical for the live human subject. So the proposed system, monitors the standard of water relentlessly with the assistance of IoT devices, such as Node MCU. The in-built Wi-Fi module is attached in Node MCU which enables internet connectivity to transfer the measured data from sensors to the Cloud. Here, we measure the various parameters like temperature, humidity, Conductivity and air quality. The system is powered by a thin-film solar cell and rechargeable battery which leads to low power consumption and ensures the sustainable operation of the system. In contrast, many commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components are rated to work within those parameters. The aim of the project is building a cost-effective and low power consuming wireless sensor system using commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components with minimal human intervention to collect field sensor data in the contaminated water bodies.
