What should be the Best Location for Establishing a School? – An Unbiased Opinion in Decision Making Policy through the Technology of RS & GIS

ABSTRACT
In the aera of digital technology, it is true that now most of the people in our society realize that our present society will be transfigured into a digital society in the near future. Public facilities are such an essential element that should be taken in consideration when designing the master comprehensive plans for social development. It is a fact that a School is considered as an inherent part and also a pillar of our society. Schools generate high quality manpower resources for any country in the long term, therefore; setup of a school should be planned based on a sustainable concept. A school has always played a significant role to enrich our society as well as society also encourages developing school. The identification of location for schools is one of the most crucial decision-making issues. Site and situation for location of a school is an important key factor which provides a healthy environment that encourages students’ stimulation towards the positive learning experiences, therefore, proper location of school indicates active and total utilization of resources. Some important factors underlying in determining the location selection for establishment of a school may be population volume in terms of societal demand, physical distance in terms of accessibility and connectivity and land use characteristics in terms of land or space availability etc. Sometimes it is revealed that planners are motivated or influenced by the different nonscientific factors such as political biases for location selection to establish a new school. Considering all those factors it is a challenging issue to select a point that should be appropriate in the perspective of socio-economic as well as a sweet-able environment for setting up a new school. The study served how technological tools i.e.Remote Sensing (RS) & Geographic Information System (GIS) can be used in identification of location for the purpose of setting up a new school. At the same time the study also exhibits the RS & GIS application as an important decision-making path to overcome from the human or political biases related problem for location identification in the field of planning & policy making at education system.
