Digital Transformation in Indian Higher Education System: Between Myth And Reality

ABSTRACT
Considering the growing number of students accessing the Internet through mobile devices, universities have been increasinglyinterested in accepting new communication technologies in the teaching context, enhancing the digital transformation of theseinstitutions. Mainly, higher education’s candidates are interested in the benefits of contemporary Information and Communication Technology (ICT), thus, the ICT is referred to as the digital transformation. The goal of the DTis to adopt new ways of working in order to continue delivering user-focused services in the face of changing technology, competition, audience needs, and behaviour. Many developed countries are included in the DT for education but there is some lag in their DT higher education system. Developing countries also included the DT in their education system. India has also considered the DT, and the institutions include the general objectives that are, better employability, availability of quality education for all regions, better user experience, etc. But in reality, those higher education institutions and many other organizations are being affected by several factors related to digitalization. This research article presented the DT in the Indian higher education system with an analysis between myth and reality. For analyzing the reality, the data is collected from educational websites, articles, and magazines. Thus, the findings show that the real outcome is less than the myth. At last, the research article suggests some points to improve the DT in the Indian higher education system.
