A Brief Overview on Tablet and Modified Release Drug Delivery System

ABSTRACT

Tablet is the solid dosage form containing different excipients. the modified dosage form is the advancement in the tablet dosage form. Modified release dosage forms are manufactured for the specific pharmaceutical action, the specific site of action, reduce the dose of the drug. the coating plays an important role in the modified release dosage form. A review provides information on the tablet manufacturing process, advantages, and disadvantages, types of modified release drug delivery systems, and coating importance in the modified release dosage form. Tablet is a more used dosage form in the market. the tablet is the most preferred dosage form in the pharmaceutical industry.

Nowadays the modified release has more acceptance than the traditional dosage form. modified release dosage forms are used to boost the therapeutic action of the drug, target the specific site and reduce the dose of the drug.

The tablet dosage form is more preferred dosage form. tablet drug delivery was developed because they have low cost are convenient for patients. modified release dosage forms are used to improve the therapeutic action and safety. in the pharmaceutical industry for systemic action 90% of drugs are taken orally, modified release dosage forms play an important role in to prolog the drug action by sustained release, increase the lag the by delayed-release, controlled the drug action by controlled release, tablet as well as modified release dosage form are easy to formulate, are cost-effective and required the low-cost equipment to manufacture the dosage form nowadays the coating also play an important role in the modified release dosage form to avoid fast pass metabolism degradation, and target the drug at the specific site of action.
