A critical review of Dravya of charakokta varnya mahakashaya for local application (cosmetics) W.S.R. skin types

ABSTRACT Ayurveda is the oldest system of treatment and lifestyle. Acharya also mentioned use of drugs to make skin healthier and more radiant which can be used for cosmetic purpose. Acharya Charaka has mentioned Varnya Mahakashaya which is one among 50 Mahakashaya. There are different types of skin described by American Association of Dermatology (AAD), which can be categorised further on the basis of dominant Dosa based on their characteristics compared with Guna and Karma of Tridosha. Drugs mentioned in Varnya Mahakashaya can be used in general, if they categorised on the basis of their Dosaghnata and selected for particular skin type, they can deliver higher quality of results when applied locally.
