A Detail Review on Sidhma Kushtha With Special Reference To Tinea Versicolor. (Pityriasis Versicolor)

INTRODUCTION
Ayurveda is ancient system of Indian medicine. In Ayurveda, daily regimen and seasonal regimen is mentioned. Nowadays increasing stress due to change in Lifestyle or regimen causes strotodushti which is causative factor for skin disease. Good skin is an integral part of health. In Ayurveda, all skin diseases are explained under a single heading of Kushtha. All Kushtha is due to aggravation of Tridoshas. These aggravated Doshas vitiate Dushyas like Twak, Rakta, Mamsa and Ambu by circulating in them and produce Vaivarnya. According to Sushrutacharya, whenever the aggravated Doshas get stagnated, Mandalas appear at that site. Kushtha are innumerable in number based on the permutation and combination of Doshas and Dushyas, but mainly they are divided into seven Maha Kushtha and eleven Kshudra Kushtha. Sidhma is a variety of Kushtharoga according to all the authors of Brihathrayi and Laghutrayi. However, Charakacharya classified it under Maha Kushtha andother Acharyas like Sushrutacharya and Vagbhatacharya brought it under Kshudra Kushtha. SidhmaKushtha is an Oupasargika roga. Symptoms of Tinea versicolor are similar to that of Lakshanas of Sidhma Kushtha. Acharya Sushrutacharya has said that Krimi is also one of the causes for Kushtha and according modern science, Tinea versicolor (Pityriasis versicolor) is superficial fungal infection, caused by Malassezia furfur which is lipophilic. Tinea versicolor having clinical features like hyperpigmented or hypopigmented patch on upper central trunk, back, powdery and thin scales. As per classical text of Ayurveda there are many formulations given for Sidhma kushtha , which are effective in treatment of Sidhma kushtha. We are trying to review Kushthaghna dravyas which are helpful in the management of Sidhma Kushtha with special reference to Tinea versicolor.
Understanding of Lakshanas and Samprapti plays an important role in the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of the disease.
