A KAP Study on NABH Protocols/Guidelines Among Healthcare Staff of Down Town Hospital, Guwahati: A Cross-sectional Mixed Method Study

ABSTRACT
Background: Down town hospital, Guwahati is the first hospital in North-east India to have NABL accreditation. Standardization of healthcare and patient safety is an essential part of hospitals and healthcare providers; hence the knowledge, attitude, and practice of NABH guidelines and protocol are very essential to achieve the desired outcome from the accreditation and NABH/NABL objectives.
Objective: This study aims to the assessment of Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice of NABH guidelines and protocols by the healthcare staff of Down town hospital and also to understand whether the NABH standards are being followed by the healthcare staff.
Research methodology: The sample size of the study was 150, including doctors, staff nurses, administrative staff, and paramedical staff. Primary data was collected using a questionnaire on knowledge, attitude, and practice. A mixed method approach was taken for quantitative and qualitative data analysis. A convenient sampling technique was used.
Result: Overall “good knowledge” was seen among healthcare staff, where doctors were found to have relatively more “good knowledge”, 76.14% of all healthcare staff found to have a “positive attitude”, whereas administrative staff (80.87%) were found to have a relatively high positive attitude, 73.17 % of all healthcare staff were found “well-practiced”, where doctors (79.49%) were found relatively more “well-practiced” towards NABH guidelines & protocols. The majority of healthcare staff were found to practice NABH guidelines & protocols as per their work profile, however, a few responses come with ignorance of their work responsibilities stating difficulties to follow and practice NABH guidelines and protocols.
