“A Review Article on Ashmari and Its Ayurveda Management”

ABSTRACT Ashmari, a condition recognized by humanity since ancient times, is one of the most common ailments affecting the Mutravaha Srotas (urinary channels). While it is mentioned in all Ayurvedic texts, it is Acharya Sushrutaa, known as the "Father of Surgery," who provides the most detailed and scientific explanation of ashmari. Both Acharya Charak or Sushrutaa discussed its causes, types, symptoms, complications, and treatments comprehensively. In modern medicine, ashmari is closely correlated with urolithiasis, a condition characterized by the formation of stones in the kidneys, bladder, or urinary tract. Urolithiasis is the third most common urinary tract disease after infections and prostate conditions. The pain associated with stone passage in urolithiasis is often severe, leading to what is commonly referred to as "renal colic". Both Ayurveda and modern medicine emphasize the importance of early detection, lifestyle management, and timely treatment to prevent complications and ensure effective management of the condition
