ABSTRACT
All the four major rasayana kalpana such as ‘kharaliya rasayana’, ‘parpati’, ‘kuppi pakwa rasayana’ and pottali rasayana have their own significance and wider range of therapeutic utility. Out of these ‘pottali rasayana kalpana’ is the one which is distinctive in its own way. It is widely known for its specific methods of preparation, unique end product, optimum potency, smaller dosage and larger therapeutic applicability. Pottali Kalpana is a variety of Murchita Parada Yoga which was invented with a vision of compact, comprehensive size and shape, convenience in preserving, easy transportation, and its efficacy in treatment of emergency conditions with minimum dosage. Pottali kalpana has wide therapeutics and methods of preparation. The pottali formulation may be traced back from 12th century in a book named rasaratnakara written by Acarya Nityanath. Later in 13th century we find few more refrences and further in 14th century maximum number of pottali kalpana are being explained by different books. The same legacy is continued in many books in the later centuries. Many formulation are reproduced from older books with desired changes in the method of preparation and therapeutic approach as per the requirement of that particular era. All in all around 70 pottali kalpana may be listed out talking into consideration all the available references.
