A short review on application of Guanidine and its salt in synthesis of pyrimidines

ABSTRACT

A diverse range of biological and pharmacological profile, including anticonvulsant, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and anticancer properties, are demonstrated by pyrimidine and its derivatives. Guanidine can serve as a multicomponent reaction catalyst or solvent or as a reagent for the multi component reaction synthesis of substituted pyrimidines, diazines, triazines, and macroheterocycles.This short review gives an overview of the application of guanidine and its salts in the synthesis of pyrimidines and few of the marketed drugs containing pyrimidine nucleus.
