ABSTRACT The concept of Ama has deep roots in all the sections of Ayurveda such as Nidana, Kayachikitsa, and Shalya chikitsa, etc. The term Amavat is self-explanatory (ama + vata) indicates the major components of the disease. Amavat is a clinical condition where ama is stimulated by an increasing vata defect in the ama, settles into the trika sandhi and is characterized by excessive pain in the joints with swelling, fever and eventually stiffness of the joints, leading to temporary or permanent disability of the joints and it hinders the activities of daily living. Amavata is also of a similar nature that affects the synovial joints. Rheumatic disease is a condition affecting some part of the musculoskeletal system. The medically important manifestations are pain, stiffness and swelling. Regarding the treatment aspect of the disease, there is no specific line of treatment in contemporary science that brings solace to patients. The allopathic system can manage this with its various powerful treatments like analgesics, antiinflammatory and steroids etc which can cause serious side effects and complications in the long run. The present study consists mainly with the statistical study carried out. Relevant clinical and statistical data suggest that this combined therapy, which includes Virechanand RasnasptakKwath (orally), is beneficial in the management of amavata, as it produced 63.10% good relief and moderate relief in 30.56% across subjects.
