A Study of the Traditional Dress Worn by the Mising

ABSTRACT The Mising people are the second largest tribe in the plains of Assam after the Boro-Kacharis. Like every tribe, the Missing have their own folk culture. The combination of patterns and colors of the Mising traditional dress is considered to be one of the most remarkable in the world. The skills of the Mising artisans and the traditional home-woven costumes have helped the Mising nation to establish itself as one of the most industrialized nations in the world. Traditional dress worn by men Ugan: The ordinary dhuti or churia is called 'Ugan' in Mising. Mising men use such ugan in their daily domestic environment. These ugan are commonly woven, but some have gamig. Ganbar: 'Ganbar' is a better type of ugan that is wider than the ordinary ugan and has more gamig than the specified ugan. Barchuria in the general sense. Ganbar is woven with traditional gamig and white yarn. Men wear this ganbar at festivals, public functions, meetings, mib:grik (going to eat guests) etc. in the Mising society.
