A Study on Challenges and Design Considerations for Multimedia Data Management Systems
Author Name : Mital Vora
ABSTRACT The rapid growth of the multimedia data like images, audio recordings and videos addresses new problem of managing these systems. Conventional database systems are primarily designed for structured data, so they don't work well with big, complicated multimedia files. The goal of systems for managing multimedia data is to efficiently store, organize, retrieve, and analyze media. Multimedia data management is demanding though, because of problems with storage size, indexing, retrieval performance, scalability, and semantic understanding. This paper talks about the biggest problems that systems for managing multimedia data have to deal with and points out important design factors that need to be taken into account when making systems that are both efficient and scalable.
