A Study on Consumer’s Awareness towards Greenwashing

ABSTRACT Green washing is a tactic employed by organizations that involves making unverified or deceptive assertions on the environmental and social characteristics of a product, service, or brand.The paper's primary goal of this paper is to assess the level of greenwashing carried out by companies, their environmental assertions, and the level of consumer awareness regarding this issue.In addition to that, this paper examines the efficacy of current regulations and guidelines in deterring greenwashing and safeguarding consumer welfare. From various sources of secondary data, it is discovered that companies with a high net worth, market share, and goodwill are participating in greenwashing practices in some way.This descriptive research relies on primary data collected from 164 respondents via a carefully designed questionnaire containing 15 questions, while secondary information is also collected and used which has been gathered from research publications, newspapers, magazines, online articles, and journals. The study finds that consumers are highly aware of Green Products, Green Marketing, Green Washing & they are much Concerned with Environmental sustainability. The authors also suggest ways and meansfor consumers to spot it and for companies/Marketers to avoid greenwashing.
