A Study on Exploring The Motivations Behind The Moonlighting
Author Name : Kavya P, Dr. Dinesh Nilakant Rao
ABSTRACT : Moonlighting, the practice of engaging in additional employment outside of one's primary job, has become increasingly prevalent in today's workforce. This study aims to explore the motivations driving employees to pursue moonlighting activities and their implications for job performance and commitment to their primary employment. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews. The survey gathered data from a diverse sample of employees across different industries, while interviews provided in-depth insights into individual experiences and perspectives. Results revealed a multifaceted landscape of motivations for moonlighting, including economic necessity, career advancement, skill development, and work-life balance. Furthermore, findings indicated that moonlighting behaviour was associated with both positive and negative outcomes, with implications for job performance and organizational commitment. Through an analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between moonlighting motivations, employee outcomes, and organizational dynamics. The findings have implications for HR policies, organizational management, and future research in the field of employment behaviour and work-life balance
