A Study on Impeccable Ancient Monuments Of India
Author Name : Dr. S. Prabakaran
ABSTRACT
Monuments have been created for thousands of years and they are often the most durable and famous symbols of Ancient Civilization. A Monument is a type of usually three dimensional structure that was explicitly created to commemorate a person or event, or which has become relevant to a social group as a part of their remembrance of historic times or cultural heritage, due to its artistic, historical, political, technical or architectural importance. There are at present more than 3650 Ancient Monuments and Archaeological sites and remains of national importance. These Monuments belong to different periods ranging from prehistoric period to the colonial period and are located in different geographical settings. They include temples, mosques, tombs, churches, cemeteries, forts, palaces, step-wells, rock-cut caves, and secular architecture as well as ancient mounds and sites which represent the remains of ancient habitation. These Monuments and sites are maintained and preserved through various circles of the ASI spread all over the country.
