A Study on Partial Replacement of Sand by Cast Iron Dust in Standard Concrete
Author Name : Chirantani Biswas, Dr. Prof. Biman Mukherjee
ABSTRACT
Nowadays the demand for river sand is increasing, but its availability is decreasing. So, we need to find suitable alternatives and replace the sand partially. So many researchers investigate the effect of waste products for partial replacement of river sand such as Incinerated Sewage sludge, Crushed rock flower, Glass sheet powder, ceramic waste. The utilization of waste is one of the active research areas that encompass the effectiveness of replacement in all aspects of construction materials.
This paper is about the experimental study on the mechanical strength properties of M20 grade concrete. There will be a partial replacement of sand by using Cast Iron Dust. The sand will be partially replaced by cast iron dust by the percentage of 5%, 10%, and 15%. The analysis of mechanical properties is such as compressive strength and flexural strength. The tests for different periods of curing are for 7 days, 14 days, and 28 days.
Cast Iron dust can be easily collected from any factory or workshop as a waste product. It can impart Compressive strength as well as Tensile strength. Cast Iron is a very effective concrete composite for Compressive Members like Columns, Piles, Stools, etc.
Keywords: Cast Iron Dust, Compressive strength, Flexural strength.
