ABSTRACT Arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is considered the most appropriate and preferred long-term vascular access for patients undergoing hemodialysis due to its superior patency rate, improved blood flow, and lower risk of infection compared to other vascular access methods. Despite its advantages, AVF is susceptible to complications such as thrombosis, stenosis, aneurysm formation, and infection, which may result in access failure if not properly managed. Adequate patient knowledge and adherence to recommended self-care practices are essential to maintain fistula patency and prevent complications. The present study aimed to assess the knowledge and reported practices regarding AV fistula care among hemodialysis patients in a selected tertiary care hospital in Bengaluru with a view to developing an informational pamphlet.
