ABSTRACT

Hypertension (HTN or HT), also known as high blood pressure (HBP), is a long- term medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is persistently elevated. A quasi experimental study was conducted to assess effectiveness of guided imagery to reduce blood pressure among hypertensive senior citizens. The study was conducted in old age home of Anand district, A sample of 50 senior citizens with hypertension were using non probability purposive sampling technique and assign into two group, Independent variable is providing guided imagery therapy, dependant variable is mean arterial pressure. The pre test & post test was taken using digital sphygmomanometer on first day & last day of study the post test blood pressure level measured on the 15 day of interaction .in experimental group giving guided imagery therapy. In order to assess the pre-test and post-test blood pressure level among experimental and control group, T-test, and Chi- square test was used. The mean post- test of blood pressure level score 113.32 is lower than pre-test score 119.12 in experimental group. The above results clearly indicate that guided imagery therapy is effective in reducing blood pressure level. Further to know the statistical significance between pre- test and post-test blood pressure level T-test and Chi-square test was computed. The T- test value of pre- test blood pressure level and post-test blood pressure level (t= 8.646, p<0.001) showed that there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test blood pressure level of experimental group. T-test value indicates significant difference between pre-test and post test blood pressure level (t=8.646, p<0.001) of experimental group. This indicates that the guided imagery therapy is effective in reducing blood pressure level. The findings shows that the computed T-test value of experimental and control group is (t=16.371, p<O.OO1) indicates that there is significant difference between pre-test and post-test blood pressure level of experimental and control group. So, the result shows that guided imagery therapy is effective in reducing blood pressure level (5.80>3.56). Hence, the H1 is accepted.
