Abies Pindrow - Therapeutically Potential Himalayan Fir

ABSTRACT
Plants have been used for the treatment and prevention from various diseases for thousands of years. Despite of ancient nature of traditional medicinal plants, green consumerism and sustainable use of natural products is on high demand due to the increased scientific validation of plant based therapeutic products. Uttarakhand Himalayas has a rich flora of medicinal plants as well as knowledge of traditional medicinal plants. Abies pindrow an Himalayan fir is a potential therapeutic agent. This plant is considered to have antioxidant, anti periodic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. This plant can be a useful raw material for development of nutraceutical agent due to the presence of various secondary metabolites. Thus based on the available reports about its importance, an attempt has been made to review this species in context of its medicinal and pharmaceutical importance.
