Author Name : Newton Debbarma
ABSTRACT
Tribal people are marginalized even today in our society in many respects. Achievement level of marginalized students in secondary examination is very less than other social groups. We can improve their academic achievement level through education. Education is the key to individual as well as socio – political & cultural development. Proper education creates social peace and prosperity. According to the 2011 census, in India Scheduled Tribes (ST) are 8.5 percentage of the total population and in Tripura Scheduled Tribes constitutes 31.8 percentage of the total population of the state. State literacy rate of 2001 was 73.2 percentage and tribal literacy rate was 56.5 percentage with a gap of 16.7. State literacy rate of 2011 is 87.75 percentage but tribal literacy rate is 79.1 percentage with a gap 8.6 percentage. In spite of literacy rate improving amongst Scheduled Tribes but it has been observed that the pass percentage of ST students in Madhyamik Examination in Tripura Board is lower than the Scheduled Castes (SC) & others students of Tripura. (See Table 1, 2, and 3). It provides an overview of trends and issues, explores their ethical dimensions, and tries to identify relevant strategies to promote tribal education in the state of Tripura towards a better future. The study is based on primary data and secondary data obtained from TBSE, various texts, references, books, internet and various published journals and reports.
