ABSTRACT

Background: The Amyand’s hernia (AH) is defined by the presence of the appendix in an inguinal hernia. It is named in honor of Claudius Amyand, the first person in report this kind of hernia. The incidence of the AH is between 0.28 – 0.13 %, and its diagnostic before the operating room is exceptional.

Objective: Our objective is to describe our experience with a patient with anAH type 2.

Methods. We performed a retrospective and descriptive study, case report, of a patient with no comorbidities, with anAH Type 2.

Results. A male of 31 years old, was admitted in the Surgery department for abdominal pain, laboratory studies showed leukocytosis by neutrophilia, with Alvarado and Ripasa scores compatible with appendictis. We proceeded with emergency laparoscopy, with previous informed consent, where we founded anAH type 2, solving it with laparoscopic appendicectomy and open hernia surgical repair.

Conclusions: As seen on the literature, our case represented a diagnostic challenge that required prompt treatment. The use of mesh in these cases still need more data for recommend or do not recommend its use.
