Addiction as a Biopsychosocial Disorder: Biological Mechanisms, Impact on Youth Health, and the Role of Herbal Supportive Interventions

Author Name : Ms Shaily Mishra, Siya Desai, Rmi Jagani

ABSTRACT Addiction is a complex, chronic condition influenced by biological, psychological, and environmental factors. This study examines addiction through a multidisciplinary lens, with special emphasis on its biological basis, neurological mechanisms, and its growing impact on youth health. Using qualitative thematic analysis of secondary data, surveys, interviews, and institutional reports, the research explores how addictive behaviours alter brain chemistry, impair physical and mental health, and disrupt social functioning.
