Author Name : Supriya

ABSTRACT  Trade unionism is an important outcome of industrialization. Webbs (Sidney, Beatrice Webb) define trade union as a continuous association of wage earners for the purpose of maintaining or improving the conditions of their working life. Industrial Revolution gave birth to various situations forcing workers to deal together for improving their conditions. This paper is an attempt to study the Trade Union Movement in India through various phases : Trade Union Movement before Independence, after Independence and after Liberalisation. It also makes suggestions regarding the role of Trade Unions in the present day scenario.
