An Epic from the Eyes of the Old Tribe- A Study on the Specific Traits of the Karbi Ramayana ‘Sabin Alun’

ABSTRACT

Sabin Alun, the Ramayana, that is prevalent among the oldest tribe of Assam i.e., the Karbis, are rich with traits of its own. The Sanskrit epic by Valmiki and the Karbi epic differ in certain points in theme, context and the characterization. Also many unique traits are observed among the Ramayana prevalent among the Karbi people from the hills and those from the plains. This study attempts to determine the specific traits of the Karbi Ramayana Sabin Alun.
