An Ethnographic Study on the Santhal Tribe of Godda District of Jharkhand

ABSTRACT
The present study entitled ― An ethnographic study on Santhal tribe of Godda district of Jharkhand” The research is based on the survey done in Basantrai block with the help of purposive sampling. It has been concluded from the study that hereditary occupations of the people of Santhal community are assigned by their birth, which determine their status in the society. From the findings it was concluded that the overall socioeconomic status of the respondents depends upon this Bamboo related business only and which was lower-medium to high level And this business not only influence their socioeconomic condition but also it effect their health status. While some them opt to other kind of business also. The study had proved an ethnographic condition of the respondents is not so good and have positive significant relation with the socio-economic status of the respondents. It identified challenges faced by the respondents and their family because of their occupation. Hence it was concluded that they should stay away or reduce the consumption of intoxicating substances. Also from the above study the right conclusion comes that according to the law of nature, whatever is born, it is bound to die and they also have an important participation in this natural process. However, with the changing circumstances, it is necessary to change their living habits and the work they are doing. By giving an important place to their work, its level should be changed.
