ABSTRACT The Lepchas are the original inhabitants of the Eastern Himalayan religion. Dzongu Valley in Sikkim, is home to the Lepchas Morality has plays a significant part in Lepcha stories and folktales. Every Lepcha folktale always bears a moral or lesson that the listeners must ascertain at the end. These stories though narrated with the intention of entertaining the folk, they are also didactic in nature. They convey a lesson or multiple lessons that the folks listening are expected to carry out. By carrying out or implementing these lessons in their everyday lives they are indirectly protecting their legacy and the future generations. This paper aims to explore the significance behind morality in Lepcha folktales by primarily focusing on the story ‘How the Lepchas Got Grain.’
