ABSTRACT

Isoxazolines are an important class of heterocyclic compounds. They have a high importance in the field of medicinal chemistry as anticancer agents. They are kind of five membered ring system composed of oxygen and nitrogen adjacent to each other. These isoxazolines can occur in variety of natural products and are biologically active compounds, allowing them to be used as useful intermediates for heterocyclic chemistry. In the field of bioorganic chemistry, isoxazoline has a leading position due to its diverse biological applications. Moreover, due to its significant pharmacological properties, researchers have been highly interested in the isoxazoline nucleus. In fact, a motif of isoxazoline has been detected in the molecular components of certain synthetic and organic substances which are applied for different areas such as agriculture and medicine. In the organic synthesis process, it serves as an essential building block. The dihydric derivative of isoxazole is also called as Isoxazoline. Usually, the sophisticated way to synthesize isoxazoline and pyrazoline is by the cyclization of α, β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds (chalcones) with hydroxylamine and hydrazine hydrate. Various synthetic methods have been reported for the synthesis of five membered cyclic isoxazolines with metals and without metals catalysed synthetic routes. The review therefore provides an in-depth knowledge of the various synthetic strategies and biological activities of isoxazoline derivatives.
