“Analysis of Different Shapes of RCC Silos Using Sap2000 Software”

Author Name : Mr. Tanmay S. Rane, Prof. U.L. Deshpande

ABSTRACTThe growing population has led to an increase in the demand for storage structures. Generally, industries would prefer silos for storing huge quantity of materials such as wheat, rice, maize, corn, sugar, bituminous coal, dry coke, ash, cement, clinkers etc. Silos are a special kind of construction that experience several unusual load conditions, leading to different collapse modes. Silos are cantilever structures with material filled vertically. Bulk material storage silos are raised or supported directly on the ground. The walls of different kinds of silos are subjected to seismic forces by the material stored, which might be a lot higher than the pressures encountered during filling and emptying. This paper aims towards the analysis of different types of silos viz. Square, Circular and Rectangular silos and also provides the idea of effect of different shapes of silos on seismic behavior on RCC structure. The capacity of the silo is considered as 2200kN.
