Author Name : Santosh Kumar Jain, Dr M.K Tiwari

ABSTRACT Jain temple also known asJinalaya in North India,Basadi, Basi or Basti in South India, and Derasars in Gujaratreflect the blend of spiritual ideals and architectural mastery. Built according to Vaastu Shastra, these temples are designed to foster spiritual well-being, symbolizing profound philosophical meanings. Originating around the 8th century BCE, Jain temples evolved from simple caves to complex structures. Vaastu Shastra emphasizes auspicious site selection, cardinal orientation, and precise layouts to enhance spiritual energy. The evolution of Jain temple architecture mirrors Jain philosophy, with elements like the torana (entrance) symbolizing spiritual transition. Sites are chosen for positive vibrations and often face east, symbolizing spiritual awakening. Layouts typically center the Garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum) to align with cosmic energies.Modern challenges include urbanization and environmental degradation, leading to preservation efforts. Studying Jain temple Vaastu illuminates ancient practices and the enduring relevance of Jain beliefs. This research explores these principles, offering a comprehensive analysis of their origins, evolution, and contemporary significance, contributing to the discourse on Jain architecture and its spiritual legacy.
