Assess Academic Stress Experienced and Coping Strategies Adopted by Final Year Nursing Students during Pandemic of Covid-19

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Stress is normal human reaction that happens to everyone. The human body is designed to experience stress and react it. When person experience changes or challenges, person’s body produces physical and mental responses. Anything from everyday responsibility like work, study or family to serious life event or death of loved ones triggers stress. This is called as stressors. Covid-19 pandemic has introduced uncertainty into major aspects of national and global society including educational system. One in five college students say that their mental health has significantly worsened during the coronavirus pandemic, according to an April 2020 survey.
Objective: The main objective of this study to identify academic stress level and coping strategies adopted by students.
Method: A quantitative research approach with descriptive research design was used and the study was done at the Maniba Bhula Nursing College. The sample comprised of 100 final year nursing students. Samples were selected by Non probability convenient sampling technique. Tools were validated by experts and formal permission was taken from MBNC prior to data collection. Online data collection was done by using google form. Data was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results: The academic stress level (9%) had mild stress, (64%) of them had moderate stress, (27%) had severe stress. The coping strategies (20%) having non-adaptive coping strategies and (75%) have adaptive coping strategies. There was positive correlation between academic stress and coping strategies.
Conclusion: The study conclude that final year nursing students have moderate level of academic stress as well as adaptive coping strategies to cope up with stress. Though by knowing academic stress of students and teach the students different coping strategies to cope with stress may improve individual mentally strong.
