Assessment of LV Function Using MAPSE/L and Global Longitudinal Strain in Heart Failure Patients

Author Name : Dr A Srinivasan MD DM, Dr Vignesh Parivallal MD, Dr S. Muthugowtham

ABSTRACT Background: Accurate assessment of left ventricular (LV) systolic function is essential in the evaluation and management of heart failure. While Global Longitudinal Strain (GLS) has emerged as a sensitive indicator of myocardial dysfunction, its measurement requires high-quality images and advanced software. Mitral Annular Plane Systolic Excursion (MAPSE), a simple M-mode parameter, reflects longitudinal LV function but is influenced by ventricular size. The MAPSE-to-LV length ratio (MAPSE/L) may offer a more standardized assessment of longitudinal systolic function. [1–3]
