Bipolar Affective Disorder with Current Episode of Mania- Case Study

ABSTRACT Bipolar disorders are mood disorders characterized by severe pathologic mood swings. Typically patient experiences extreme high (mania or hypomania) with alternating extreme low (depression). [1] The average age of onset of bipolar affective disorder is 20. However, the disorder can occur at any time. Although Patient may be depressed and manic at similar time, the two conditions most commonly occur sequentially; most often mania comes first, followed by depression. This mood changes from mania to depression or depression to mania is referred as switch process. [2] A manic episode is characterized by a persistently elevated, expansive or irritable mood.
