Child Exploitation in India: Overview and Challenges

ABSTRACT Children make up for a large portion of the society not just in India but in the entire world. They are what define the future generation. India has a very high volume of child trafficking. The major reasons behind child trafficking include poverty, lack of awareness, demand for cheap labor, and sexual exploitation. The most common form of child trafficking in India is labour trafficking, where children are coerced or forced to work in hazardous conditions. Child labour has serious repercussions on children's health, education and development. Under extreme economic distress, children are forced to forego educational opportunities and take up jobs which are mostly exploitative as they are usually.
