ABSTRACT

Background: Karnashoola is one of the common disorders described in Ayurveda characterized predominantly by ear pain and discomfort. It can be correlated with Diffuse Otitis Externa in modern medicine, which is an inflammatory condition of the external auditory canal associated with pain, tenderness, itching, and discharge. Ayurveda explains Karnashoola as a manifestation of Dosha vitiation affecting the Karna and advocates local therapeutic procedures for management. Karnapoorana is one such procedure in which medicated oil is instilled into the ear for therapeutic benefit.
