Clinical Importance of Ashtavidha Pariksha

ABSTRACT
Asthavidha Pariksha (eight fold examination) is one of the diagnostic methods prescribed in Ayurveda. As in the case of disease and treatment the concept of diagnosis also is unique in Ayurveda. It goes to the Nidana (diagnosis) of Doshicimbalance by studying the physical, physiological, psychic and behavioral aspects of the patient. There are various diagnostic tools described in Ayurveda under Rog Pariksha and Rogi Pariksha.Asthavidha Pariksha is one such very important tool for diagnosis of diseases. It also helps in providing disease – specific treatment. Asthasthana Pariksha given in Yogaratnakar include examination of Nadi (Pulse), Mutra(Urine),Mala(Faecal matter), Jihva(Tongue), Shabda(Voice), Sparsha(Touch/Skin), Drik(Eyes &Vision) and Akriti(General body appearance). It is complete and thorough examination of the diseased person. This helps in diagnosis as well as establishing prognosis of disease. Asthavidha Pariksha in Ayurveda is one of the important examinations to find the various causes behind the disease.In Asthavidha Pariksha there are eight factors which are taken into consideration during the examination and it’s carried out with the patients.
