Coconut Husk Waste: Exploring Sustainable Solutions for Environmental Challenges

Author Name : Deepika Sharma

ABSTRACT Coconut husk waste, a by-product of the global coconut industry, is generated in vast quantities and often discarded improperly, leading to significant environmental challenges. This review explores the issues associated with coconut husk waste, such as its contribution to solid waste pollution, methane emissions during decomposition, and adverse impacts on soil and water quality. Despite these challenges, coconut husks possess immense potential as a resource for sustainable applications. Innovations in composting, coir production, energy recovery, and erosion control demonstrate how this biomass can be transformed into valuable products, reducing environmental impacts and supporting circular economy practices. By adopting integrated waste management strategies, including advanced processing technologies and policy interventions, coconut-producing regions can mitigate environmental challenges and unlock the economic potential of coconut husks. This paper highlights the need for collaborative efforts among industries, governments, and researchers to create sustainable solutions for managing coconut husk waste effectively.
