Comparative Analysis of Housing Finance Companies in India: A Case Study of HUDCO and LIC Housing Finance Ltd.

ABSTRACT This study investigates the operational and financial performance of Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd. (HUDCO) and LIC Housing Finance Ltd. (LIC), two prominent housing finance companies in India. The analysis spans from 2013-14 to 2022-23, focusing on loan disbursement trends, borrowings, average loan sizes, capital structure, and profitability margins. The research finds that LIC consistently outperforms HUDCO in loan disbursement efficiency, with a stable capital structure and robust profitability margins. HUDCO, while demonstrating significant improvements in average loan sizes, shows volatility in loan disbursement and a growing reliance on short-term borrowings. Statistical analysis confirms significant differences in performance metrics, highlighting LIC's superior operational effectiveness. The study provides valuable insights into the financial health and strategic positioning of these key players in the Indian housing finance sector
