Contribution of Bhandari Government (1979-1994) to the educational development of Sikkim

ABSTRACT Nar Bahadur Bhandari is known everywhere in the political circles of Sikkim with the epithet of Bhishma Pitamah. Bhandari, who is known as a powerful Chief Minister in the history of Sikkim, was born on October 5, 1940 in Malbasey village under the current Soreng district of Sikkim. He was involved in the teaching profession in various schools of Sikkim for eleven years after graduating from Darjeeling Government College. He left the teaching profession and entered into politics in 1973, who luckily survived after the beating of the CRPF on 10 October 1974.He was detained by the then LD Kazi's government and kept in Barhampur Central Jail west Bengal for few months. He became the first Nepali Chief Minister of India on 18 October 1979 after winning the general election in 1979. On 24 May 1984 he formed another political party called Sikkim Sangram Parishad.
