Correlation of Hand Grip Strength With Fatigue in Young Individuals-A Cross Sectional Correlational Study
Author Name : Tejasvini A. Chauhan, Bosky M. Mehta
ABSTRACT : Introduction: Hand grip strength is an indicator of general muscle strength that is measured using a hand dynamometer. Fatigue is a common experience of individuals suffering from chronic illnesses measured by fatigue assessment scale (FAS). Methodology: participants between 20-25 years of age without any musculoskeletal, surgical, neurological condition were included in the study. Demographic data of all participants were taken and were instructed to fill FAS scale (ICC- 0.9). Handgrip strength was measured with Hand Held Baseline Dynamometer. Three repetitions were taken and best of three was included. Result: The result of the study shows statistically significant weak negative correlation between dominant hand grip strength with fatigue (p value = 0.03, r = -0.209) and non-dominant hand grip strength(p = 0.00, r = -0.35) with fatigue. Conclusion: From the result of the study it is concluded that hand grip strength of dominant and non-dominant hand is associated with clinically relevant fatigue in young individuals respectively.
