Cost, Returns and Profitability of Jamun in Sindhudurg District of Maharashtra

ABSTRACT The present data is based on the primary data, collected from the 120 jamun growers from the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. The data was collected from the four tehsils of Sindhudurg district namely Sawantwadi, Malvan, Kudal and Kankavli. Jamun is an important minor fruit crop in the Sindhudurg area. Cost concepts were used to obtain the cost return and profitability of jamun in Sindhudurg district. In total cost, the share of input cost was more in jamun trees. The total cost of cultivation (cost C) of jamun was Rs.79154 at the overall level out of which share of cost A was 48.4 per cent and cost B was 89.33 per cent. The benefit-cost ratio was 1.97 at the overall level and hence, it was concluded that the production of Jamun trees was profitable.Jamun production is the additional income support for the farmers.
