Creating a Standard Operating Procedure for the Use of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) in Bituminous Mix (DBM-II) Based on Field Experience

Author Name : Sanskar Kumar, Vishnu Kumar

ABSTRACT This paper focuses on the development of a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the inclusion of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) in the Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM-II) mix. Through field studies and laboratory evaluations conducted on highway rehabilitation projects, practical challenges and solutions in the incorporation of RAP were documented. The resulting SOP offers a structured approach for material selection, processing, mix design, quality control, and field implementation. Adoption of this SOP aims to enhance sustainability, reduce costs, and maintain performance standards in road construction. The results prove that following appropriate processing and quality control, RAP can be included in DBM-II mixes up to a specific level without seriously impacting how the pavement works.
