ABSTRACT
Diagnosis is a fundamental component in clinical practice with significant implication in patient care, research and health policy. A clinician use the method of reasoning based on scientific knowledge of disease and their manifestation for arriving at a definite conclusion. Yet in many instances the process of reasoning can lead to pitfalls especially when the factors at hand are more complex. Ayurveda has a holistic and person centric approach towards health and disease which in turn necessitates consideration of several factors in the process of a diagnostic and therapeutic work up. Ayurveda owing to its holistic and patient centric approach, the diagnostic process involves the assessment of several subjective and objective parameters with due consideration to influence of Dosha, Dusya, Desha, Kala, Prakriti etc along with social and environmental health history. Even though working on the same patient there are significant difference between Ayurveda and modern biomedicine with regard to understanding of disease and method of assessment. Developing validating diagnostic tools for diseases as well as designing of treatment protocol as per Ayurvedic fundamental principle can help in standardizing the clinical approach. Ayurveda focuses on therapeutically propriety for governance of correct application of treatment protocol in consonance with region, time, environment and other individual variation. It has been emphasized on Paradi Guna to be implemented not only for correct understanding of the evolution of disease process but also to advise rational therapeutic and preventive measures. A critical study has been made by the author to evaluate the impact Paratva &Aparatva attribute under Paradi guna as the essential standardized tool for evaluation, understanding etiopathogenesis and rational approach of preventive & therapeutic measures.
