Crtical Study about Geograpical Indication of Virupakshi Hill Banana

ABSTRACT The purpose of a geographical indicator (GI) is to identify the place of origin of agricultural and other manufactured commodities, as well as to distinguish items with particular qualities that originate from a certain region. The Geographical Indication Registry was formed and the Geographical Indication of Goods [Registration and Protection] Act, 1999 were both passed by India as a member of the World Trade Organisation. The goods prepared with Traditional knowledge have more advantages. At presently there are 432 GI Tags in India in that “Virupakshi Hill Banana” Falling in Class 31 for Horticulture Product – Banana under No. 124 as of the date 12.05.2008 at Virupakshi (near Palani Hills) Dindigul District We have more varieties of banana in India apart from all Virupakshi Hill banana has a different method of production like soil, climate, planting material, season etc and has a different after cultivation procedure makes the Banana more healthy and tasty.
