Cyber Crimes in India: A State-wise Analysis (2020-2022)
Author Name : Arvinder Singh
ABSTRACT : The rise of cyber crimes has become a significant concern in India, as the nation undergoes digital transformation. This research paper analyzes the state-wise trends in cyber crimes across 28 states and 8 union territories in India from 2020 to 2022, using data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). The findings reveal a significant increase in the overall number of cyber crimes, with Telangana, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh reporting the highest numbers in 2022. The rate of cyber crimes per lakh population was highest in Telangana, followed by Karnataka and Goa. However, several states reported relatively low numbers, potentially indicating underreporting or limitations in detection and reporting mechanisms. The chargesheeting rate, reflecting the efficiency of law enforcement agencies in filing charges, varied significantly across states, with Delhi having the highest rate and several states reporting a 0% rate. The study highlights the need for a comprehensive national strategy, enhanced cyber security measures, and collaborative efforts among states to combat the ever-evolving challenges posed by cyber threats.
