De Beauvoir’s Assessment of Engels Concept of Private Property for Marginalisation of Women
Author Name : Reter Badak
ABSTRACT
The paper discusses Simone de Beauvoir’s view on Freidrich Engels concept of creation of private property as the reason for marginalization of women. De Beauvoir in her book The Second Sex criticized Engels view of the emergence of private property as the primary source of patriarchy and oppression of women. De Beauvoir unfounded Engels view based on two perspectives, firstly, through imperialism of human consciousness and, secondly, emancipation of women. De Beauvoir’s analysis points to relative issues if we percieve the oppression of women only from the materialist standpoint.
