“Deonar” Dumping Ground - Fire Effect on Air Quality after Six Years
Author Name : Satish Dhale
ABSTRACT The air quality index at Deonar is above the normal range of standard safe air quality i.e., 50 to 100 AQI; even considering the range up to 200 being the Mumbai region, still it is higher than that. This is causing health issues in the area. Being one of the oldest dumping grounds the land has now become a small mountain. Only recycling the waste is not effective and needs more attention to control the pollution level in the area. The Moderate air quality index is 50 -100 but the air pollution rate is aggravated by fire on the dumping ground has a very long-time bad effect on the air quality. The air quality after six years is also above the ≤150 AQI. ≤ 249 AQI (2020), ≤ 307 AQI (2021).
