Design and analysis of pre-engineered buildings (PEB) on a soil having low bearing capacity

Author Name : Shashikant.A.Karche, Dr. Vijendra Kumar

ABSTRACT

A well-designed foundation is particularly important for any metal building. It ensures durability and prevents most forms of building deterioration in the future, such as leaking or flooding, shifting or tilting walls, and structural damage. For a steel building, the design of the foundation determines the rest of the planning and construction process and is therefore put into motion long before the actual building is available. There are several factors surrounding the design of the foundation that are important to consider before moving forward with the planning process. A structure is going to rest on soil is having low bearing capacity. A PEB (pre-engineered building) of L=80m, W=30m, H=8m, slope 1:10, bay spacing 6.667m, Vb (basic wind speed)=44, K1=1, K2=0.87, K3=1, K4=1, percentage of openings is 5.34%, Ka=0.9, Kc=0.86, Kd=0.9, dead load=0.67 KN/M, live load=3,80KN/M, and wind load as per IS 875 part-3 and bearing capacity of 145 Kpa is taken for design and analysis in STAAD Pro software. After the analysis and design support reactions are imported in STAAD FOUNDATION SOFTWARE for isolated footing. Maximum dimensions of footing are 2.15 m x 2.15 m is coming for footing numbers 28 and 100.
