Designing For the Future: Advancing Climate-Resilient Infrastructure

ABSTRACT Infrastructure including roads, bridges, buildings, and water systems is increasingly vulnerable to extreme weather events such as hurricanes, floods, heat-waves, and sea-level rise. Traditional Infrastructures designs are far too often built with the outdated design models that don't take climate change into consideration. Eventually, infrastructure that isn't built with climate adaptivity in mind will lead to damages and disruptions, which higher the cost of repair and maintenance. This research shows how the infrastructure can adapt to withstand the impacts of climate change. It shows sustainable design strategies, policies, technologies that adapt, and relevant case studies that focus on climate-resilient infrastructure. By studying some global cases examples and this paper proposes adaptable, comprehensive, and flexible design solutions that can withstand with future changes and directions and are built with resilience and sustainability in mind.
